Summer 2024's Latest It-Bag Trend: The Mesh Bag

Mesh shoes have undoubtedly become one of the biggest footwear trends of summer 2024. So it was only a matter of time before mesh bags caught on with the masses as well.

In recent weeks, T&C's eagle-eyed fashion editors have been noticing more and more people taking the sheer purse trend for a spin. It started in June when Dua Lipa posted a photo to Instagram carrying Alaïa's new Demi Lune fishnet shoulder bag in black. Then, in early July, Jennifer Lawrence was photographed carrying a slouchy sheer red tote. (ICYMI, red is also having a huge moment this season.) Days later, Tracee Ellis Ross also appeared to hop on the bandwagon, when she too shared a photo to Instagram carrying Alaïa's mesh bag, but in red.

Proving our point even further is the fact that several brands have recently dropped their own iterations of mesh bags—in a slew of different silhouettes. Besides Alaïa's shoulder bag, cool-girl designer Khaite has released an elevated translucent tote with a gold chain, Proenza Schouler came out with a netted pouch in two colors (yes, including red), and Philip Lim's mesh take features encrusted crystals (think: rhinestone flats in bag form). And those are just to name a few.

Like its footwear counterpart, mesh bags are the perfect accessory for summer. They add texture and interest, and since summer sporting events are in full swing, they're semi-transparent look can help you breeze through security faster. All of which to say: Mesh fashion is here to stay.
